Yet another flood!!

Well, yesterday was definitely a day to remember..... With the river in flood, we got a massive amount of rain Sunday night - about 6 inches in 2 hours! So let's just say that drainage was a bit of a problem! We went to sleep Sunday as it was starting to rain and didn't think much of it - it was heavy, but we've kind of gotten used to that this year. We awoke to a phone call at 4am from Ali saying that she was flooded in and could we see if we could get to the shoppe to check on it. No worries - our house is on a hill so we thought that we'd be pretty right to get over there - boy, were we wrong! We drove down our street to see that the road at the bottom had become a river, water was gushing everywhere as all the water was flowing down the hills around us and into this street. We thought we'd be able to get through but ended up having to turn back as it was starting to get pretty deep and there looked to be rapids - God only knew what the road was like under the water. We made it home and decided to give it another go once the sun came up - at least then we could see where we were going. This is what we found:

A lot of water still on the road - nothing compared to when we first tried to drive through though(ignore my cobwebby mirror).

The force of the water must have been massive to tear off huge chunks of bitumen like that.... and those bits actually came from about a block further up the street! The council were fantastic - by about 9am they were there cleaning up the steet and patching it up so now it's almost back to normal.
The shoppe ended up being fine - just a bit of soggy carpet near the back door. We must have been so lucky as the pub just near us ended up with 2 foot of water inside! Ali wasn't so lucky - the water completely went through the whole underneath of their house - you can check out some photos on her blog here.

After all the excitement of the morning, we had some appointments to go and look at houses to buy - we are finally selling our place in Brisbane and buying one up here so now it's official that we are staying. We were just having a look around so we could get an idea of what was around but ended up finding the PERFECT place - we just couldn't risk the chance of not getting it so we put an offer in! We signed contracts today so hopefully we'll be in our new place in 2 months time. It's so exciting and it's all happening so fast that my head is spinning!! Aarrghhh... so much to organise, so little time!

Here's a quick share of some of the layouts I've been doing lately.... the first two were done during my Emily Falconbridge class.

This last one was done for the Junk Journal challenges that we are doing at Embellished. This challenge was to use something from nature.

Alright, must go so I can make some dinner!

Finally..... A Post!!

It's been a while since I last posted.... life has gotten away from me the last couple of weeks with stuff going on at the moment. But I'll try and catch you up with what's been happening....

It's a major case of deja vu here in Rocky at them moment... we had a flood a few weeks ago and now we are expecting another one - the river is already up really high and the boardwalk down near the river is closed off again. The last flood peaked at 7.55 metres and they are expecting it to get to 7.7m this time. Here is a few photos of the last flood to give you an idea...
The view from my patio... shows what the river normally looks like, although it is fuller than normal in this photo.

It now looks like a flood plain...

The first photo is a side on view of the same place as the second... the water is a tad higher... LOL!

The main boardwalk area... not usually this many people around, they are all just checking out how high the river is.

Walk anyone??
It's funny the difference this time around, the first flood was like a major tourist attraction with all the locals going down to the river and taking photos of the water, the SES was about town putting markers on some of the poles to show the expected flood level and everyone was talking about it. This time, it's like everybody's over it already - seen one flood, you've seen them all.

I found out a few weeks ago that my thyroid was underactive... which would explain me falling asleep at 8pm while watching tv! Started taking medication and was just starting to feel better when I was hit with the flu! Apparently it's going around at the moment and is a bit of a nasty one... have spent most of the last week in bed feeling like I was dying but am feeling better now. I was too sick to work at the shoppe on Saturday so Noel went in for me.... he's so great - can't say that there are a lot of guys out there who would volunteer to work in a scrapbooking shop for a day but he did it for me!

I haven't done any scrapping the last week or so due to this stupid flu, but there is a few things to show you since my last post.... but I will share next time or this post will just go on forever! I've also got other news to tell .... but you'll have to wait for that as well! I have so many blogs to catch up on that it's not even funny... so hopefully I'll be able to catch up and leave you all a comment!

Edited to add: Arrghh! I just checked out bloglines and I have 340 posts to catch up on.... I think I need a good nights sleep before I tackle that one! LOL!!
